OUR MATERIALS

When you buy a jewelry piece form Sansoeurs, it is handmade by highly skilled jewellers in La Coruña, Spain. Working this way, we ensure that your jewelry is of the highest quality, your stones are conflict-free and your gold is only 18k.

The metals:

All our pieces come in any color of 18k gold (yellow, rose or white) and some of them are offered in 925 sterling silver. Gold is a precios metal that will not oxidize or discolor. Gold used in jewelry is an alloy, meaning other metals are present for additional strenght and to sway color. We use pure 18k gold, the highest standard in jewelry; no vermeil, no 14k gold, no gold plating.

  • Yellow gold: yellow is the natural color of gold. The higher the karat, the purer the gold. At 18k, our pieces offer the optimal mix of purity and endurance
  • Rose gold: rose gold pieces are made of yellow gold mixed with copper. The more copper mixed into the gold, the stronger the rose tone will be. Rose gold is also more durable than yellow or white gold thanks to the copper addition. However, it is not recommended for those who have any allergic reactions to copper.
  • White gold: white gold is yellow gold mixed with another metal, often Palladium, to give it a greyish-white hue.

925 sterling silver is an alloy made of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% copper.

The diamonds:

Our diamonds are ethically and responsibly sourced and meet the Kimberley Process requirements (a certification system for the international trade of diamonds not originating from countries in conflict). We only work with G VS diamonds according to the GIA classification, with optimal clarity, color and cut (the ¨three Cs¨).

  • Clarity refers to the the natural presence of inclusions in the stones and is ranked on a scale that goes from FL (flawless, only given to very rare diamonds) to I3 (visible, for diamonds with big inclusions). All our diamonds are VS in clarity (very small inclusions), a very high rank on the scale.
  • Color is used to grade white diamond on a scale that runs from pure white (D) to yellow (Z). All our diamonds are color G.
  • Cut refers to the way the rough stone was sliced and faceted to increase brilliance. Usual cut shapes are brilliant, princesse, baguette, emerald, marquise, oval or pear.

There is another important “C”, carats, which refer to a diamonds weight (0.2 grams) but are usually a good indication of size. The price of diamonds increases exponentially with the number of carats, as larger diamongs are rarer and therefore pricier.

HOW TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR JEWELRY

Gold is a sturdy metal than can withstand a lot. It will, however, lose a bit of its shine through the years. To bring back its luster, simply deep it into warm soapy water, rub it gently -you can also scrub lightly with a toothbrush-, and dry thoroughly with a soft polishing cloth. Sterling silver is H20 sensitive which may cause oxidation. If unused, sterling silver will oxidize, as oils in the skin prevent silver from oxidizing. Keep your pieces in their cases and protect them if you are not going to use them for a long time.
